1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how CalcyLab (“CalcyLab,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and protects information when you visit calcylab.com and use our calculators, articles, contact form, or newsletter.

The short answer to the question we get asked most often: we do not store or sell the numbers you type into our calculators. Calculations run in your browser and are not saved to our servers. The sections below explain exactly what we do collect, why, and how you can control it.

By using CalcyLab, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you don’t agree with any part of it, please don’t use the site.

2. Information We Collect

We collect two broad categories of information:

  • Information you choose to give us directly (Section 3)
  • Information collected automatically as you browse the site (Section 4)

3. Information You Voluntarily Provide

We collect personal information only when you choose to give it to us, such as when you:

  • Submit our contact form (name, email address, and the content of your message)
  • Subscribe to our newsletter (email address)
  • Report an error in a calculator (email address, if you choose to include one)

We do not require account creation to use any calculator on CalcyLab, and we do not ask for financial account numbers, government ID numbers, or health records through our calculators.

4. Automatically Collected Information

Like most websites, our servers and analytics tools automatically log certain technical information when you visit, including:

  • IP address (used in anonymized or truncated form where possible)
  • Browser type and version
  • Device type and operating system
  • Pages visited, time spent on page, and referring website
  • Approximate location (country/region level, derived from IP address)

This information is not typically used to identify you individually — it’s used in aggregate to understand how the site is performing and where it can be improved.

5. Cookies & Tracking Technologies

A cookie is a small text file stored on your device that lets a website remember information about your visit. We use three categories of cookies:

  • Essential cookies — required for the site to function correctly (for example, remembering your cookie-consent choice). These are not optional and don’t require consent.
  • Analytics cookies — help us understand how visitors use the site (see Section 7, Google Analytics).
  • Advertising cookies — used by Google AdSense and its advertising partners to show and measure ads (see Section 6).

Where required by law (for example, for visitors in the EU/EEA and UK), we ask for your consent to analytics and advertising cookies through a cookie-consent banner before they are set. You can change your cookie preferences at any time through that banner or through your browser settings. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies; doing so may affect how parts of the site function.

6. Google AdSense & Advertising Cookies

CalcyLab displays advertising served by Google AdSense. Google and its advertising partners use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to CalcyLab and other websites. This allows Google to show ads that are more relevant to you and to measure how well those ads perform.

Google’s use of advertising cookies enables Google and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet. You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google’s Ads Settings, or opt out of a participating vendor’s use of cookies for interest-based advertising by visiting aboutads.info.

7. Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use CalcyLab — which pages are popular, how people navigate between calculators, and where visitors come from. Google Analytics uses cookies and similar technologies to collect this information. We do not use Google Analytics to identify you personally, and we do not combine analytics data with information you submit through our contact form or newsletter.

You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking across all websites by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

8. How We Use Information

We use the information described above to:

  • Operate, maintain, and improve CalcyLab’s calculators and content
  • Respond to questions, corrections, and support requests
  • Send newsletter updates to subscribers who opted in
  • Understand site traffic and usage patterns
  • Detect, prevent, and address technical issues, spam, or abuse
  • Serve and measure advertising through Google AdSense
  • Comply with legal obligations

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

9. Third-Party Services

CalcyLab relies on the following third-party services to operate the site. Each processes data under its own privacy policy:

  • Google Analytics — website traffic and usage analytics
  • Google Search Console — search performance monitoring (aggregate, non-personal)
  • Google AdSense — advertising (see Section 6)
  • Cloudflare — content delivery and security (DDoS protection, bot filtering)
  • WordPress — the platform CalcyLab is built and hosted on
  • Rank Math SEO — technical SEO and sitemap functionality (no personal data collection from visitors)
  • Newsletter provider — stores and manages subscriber email addresses for sending updates
  • Contact form provider — routes messages submitted through our contact form to our inbox

We only share information with these providers to the extent necessary for them to perform their function for us. They are not permitted to use your data for their own independent marketing purposes.

10. Data Retention

  • Contact form messages: retained for up to 24 months to allow follow-up, then deleted or anonymized.
  • Newsletter subscriber emails: retained until you unsubscribe, at which point they are deleted from our active list within 30 days.
  • Analytics data: retained according to Google Analytics’ standard retention settings (currently up to 14 months for user-level data).
  • Server logs: retained for a limited period for security and troubleshooting purposes, then automatically purged.

11. Data Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect information submitted to us, including HTTPS encryption across the site and security services provided by Cloudflare. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we can’t guarantee absolute security, but we take reasonable steps to protect your data against unauthorized access, alteration, or disclosure.

12. GDPR Rights (EU/EEA and UK Users)

If you are located in the European Economic Area or the UK, you have the following rights under the GDPR:

  • Right of access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Right to rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Right to erasure — ask us to delete your personal data in certain circumstances
  • Right to restrict processing — ask us to limit how we use your data
  • Right to object — object to processing based on legitimate interest, including for advertising
  • Right to data portability — request your data in a portable format, where applicable
  • Right to withdraw consent — withdraw consent at any time for anything we process based on consent (such as newsletter emails or optional cookies)

Where we rely on your consent (for example, optional analytics or advertising cookies, or the newsletter), the legal basis is your consent under Article 6(1)(a) GDPR. Where we rely on legitimate interest (for example, essential site analytics needed to keep CalcyLab running securely), the legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the email address in Section 20. We aim to respond within one month. If you’re not satisfied with our response, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

13. CCPA Rights (California Users)

If you are a California resident, you have the following rights under the CCPA/CPRA:

  • Right to know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose
  • Right to delete personal information we’ve collected from you, subject to certain exceptions
  • Right to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information — CalcyLab does not sell personal information, but advertising cookies used by Google AdSense may be considered “sharing” for cross-context behavioral advertising under CCPA
  • Right to non-discrimination for exercising any of these rights

To opt out of AdSense-related sharing, use the Google Ads Settings or aboutads.info links in Section 6. To exercise any other CCPA right, contact us using the details in Section 20.

14. Children’s Privacy

CalcyLab is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Some of our calculators (such as GPA or age calculators) may be used by younger students under the supervision of a parent, teacher, or guardian, but no account or personal information is required to use them. If we learn that we’ve inadvertently collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly. Parents or guardians who believe their child has provided us with personal information can contact us at the email address in Section 20.

Some pages on CalcyLab link to external websites for reference or further reading. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those external sites. We encourage you to review the privacy policy of any website you visit after leaving CalcyLab.

16. Email Communications

If you contact us through our contact form, we’ll use your email address only to respond to your message and to follow up if needed. We won’t add you to our newsletter list unless you separately opt in.

17. Newsletter Subscriptions

If you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address for the sole purpose of sending you calculator updates, new tool announcements, and occasional guides. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any newsletter email, or by contacting us directly. We do not share your newsletter email address with advertisers.

18. International Users

CalcyLab is accessible globally. If you’re accessing the site from outside the country where our servers or service providers are located, your information may be transferred to and processed in other countries, which may have different data protection laws than your own. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) for these transfers, consistent with the practices of the third-party providers listed in Section 9.

19. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, tools, or legal requirements. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Material changes affecting how we handle personal data will be reflected here before they take effect.
